The Panasonic Viera TX-P42X10 Our Product Review
The Panasonic TX-P42X10 is one of the newest flat screen TVs from Panasonic. Although only a step above Panasonic’s range of entry level large flat TVs, this has some respectable additions and features that you would often only find with more expensive TVs. It is also a plasma screen rather than an LCD.
With a 42 inch diagonal screen size, the Panasonic TX-P42X10 is amongst the bigger of the screens you can get on the market today and while rather bulky, it certainly provides great playback of movies, offering you the perfect budget centrepiece to a decent home cinema system.
Most notably, the Panasonic TX-P42X10 has a refresh rate of 100 Hz. Most competing screens only have a refresh rate of half of that but if this doesn’t mean anything to you, basically 100 Hz means there is going to be a lot less flickering. To put it simply, the higher refresh rate, but the higher the potential frame rate meaning that it’ll be easier on your eyes and playback will appear a lot smoother.
Since it is only just above the budget range of large flat screen TVs, you don’t get some are the features that you’ll find in models which are much more expensive. While the Panasonic Viera TX-P42X10 is ready to play all the latest high definition content, it does not have the highest resolution to playback the latest Bluray disks at their native resolution. Nonetheless, this is very unlikely to be a problem for anyone but the most demanding of consumers.
Although the Panasonic Viera TX-P42X10 does not look like anything special from the outside and it is rather bulky even for a screen of its size, it does have some very attractive options which makes up for it. Picture processing techniques are all the rage these days and most flat televisions have advanced picture processing techniques built in. This includes Panasonic’s highly respected and well known technology which allows the screen to be more versatile by automatically altering the contrast settings depending on the ambient light in the room.
Another very welcome feature to the TX-P42X10 in addition to all its normal connectivity options that you would expect, is the addition of an SD card reader. This means that you can simply take the SD card out of any digital camera, slot it into the screen and view your images immediately without having to worry about messing around with any cables.
If you are short on space, and don’t want to buy an extra speaker system, then the Panasonic Viera TX-P42X10 already has a pretty respectable sound system built in, however in spite of this, if at all possible, you should upgrade to a midrange 5. 1 surround system to get the most out of your movie watching experience.
Concluding this, the Panasonic Viera TX-P42X10 performed quite well all round and you also don’t have to worry about the added disadvantage is that LCD TVs tend to have such as a limited viewing angle.
