The Panasonic Viera TX-P42V10 Our Product Review

This new plasma TV provides the excellent image quality we have come to expect from Panasonic. The Panasonic TX-P42V10 has a Full-HD Neo Plasma Display Panel (PDP) which provides superb contrast and colors. Below, we are going to give you some highlights on this wonderful television, so if you need a new tv, keep reading…

For a start, with its NeoPDP panel, capable of contrast ratios of two million to one, and its shade gradation of 6,144, the black is deep and velvety, and the colors are vivid and sharp. And along with Panasonic’s other 42 inch screens, it is the only one you will find with full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080. With the Digital Camera Processing, unique to Panasonic, the TV meets Hollywood digital cinema standards, and has been awarded THX certification. With the THX preset option, you can enjoy a real cinema experience in the comfort of your home.

Admittedly, as with many integrated speakers, the sound quality does not quite match cinema standards, but with no background hum or distortion, it is still above average, and external speakers can always be connected.

The 600Hz Intelligent Frame Creation feature, combined with image-analysis technology unique to Panasonic, means screen blur is a thing of the past, and makes for excellent viewing of sports or action programs. With the impressively short time lag, and the preset Game Mode, playing video games is an enjoyable experience too.

DNLA allows easy home networking, so you can display or watch anything stored on computers or hard disc recorders anywhere in the house on a large screen. There are 2 Q-Link enabled scarts too, so you can pre-set your recorders. And the rapid response speed and superb display means any gamers in the house will be happy. With the THX certification, the TV provides an excellent home cinema experience, but the audio system, whilst being good in the mid-range does lack something in the treble and bass frequencies. Of course, it is easy to add external speakers if you want something more, but the sound generally behaves well, with no background hum, and no distortion, even at high volumes.

For anyone with environmental concerns, this is also the ideal product. Panasonic has lead the way by eliminating lead and mercury from their TVs, and the NeoPDP panel requires less energy than previous models, but provides just as much brightness. Eco-Mode automatically adjusts the brightness depending on the surrounding levels too, all without affecting the quality of the image.

In-built freesat comes as standard, together with the usual freeview and analogue tuners, and, unusually, two Q-Link enabled scart connections are provided, so you can preset your recorders and never miss your favorite show. Plus, not only is the NeoPDP more efficient than its predecessors, eco-options also allow the TV to reduce the brightness level according to the surroundings, without affecting the picture quality, as well as ensuring that all unused peripheral devices are powered down automatically.

For anyone looking to buy a new plasma TV, the Panasonic TX-P42V10 is an excellent choice, outperforming other plasma screens in the same price range, and providing extra features that will help you entertain friends and family without costing the Earth.
