Doing a CPU overclock is going to give you more performance on your machine without going through a expensive upgrade. Clocking your processor and memory is going to noticeably boost your game performance. That is of course if you are a gamer. If you just use your computer for daily cost then it is going to increase your windows score and help with your multi tasking.

Every processor and ram chipset out there has the ability to be clocked every just by a few digits. You can go into your BIOS when your computer boots up and change it in there. Be careful not to mess around too much in there and make sure you save your changes. Sometimes you may find that it doesn’t work when you reboot your computer but that is ok because if you restart and go back in the Bios system you will be able to change it back to the original settings or just turn it down a little bit. Again remember to change it back when you are done.

As simple as it may be you might wonder if it is bad to do an over clock or if it will damage some of your hardware. This can happen however it is very uncommon. The only thing that is really going to happen is that it might blue screen, or crash.

That will happen before any real problems will occur. You will really just see serious damage if you crank the clock and the processor cant handle the high volts that will be running. This is going to just cause it to over heat. If you have a new computer that is highly unlikely. But it is still serious so you need to test the clocking before you walk away to avoid damage.

Old processors don’t usually have a heat sensor that will shut the computer down should something happen and it start to overheat. The only way it might happen is if your heat sync wasn’t put on properly. This is the only real reason this failure will happen.

If you are unsure about what you are doing then it is best to just give a call to the local professionals and leave the overclocking to them. They can see all the upcoming issues before it happens.

You can speed your computer and optimize its effectiveness fast when you overclock cpu. Learn how to overclock cpu and take advantage of the benefits today!

If you need to speed up PC operations on your computer, you are in luck. It has never been more simple! The following article will provide you with some easy tips and advice on how to do just that!

The most elementary ways of speeding up the operation of your computer is delete unnecessary files. These files can include “cookies” that web pages have installed, as well as temporary files. To delete unnecessary files on your system, you simply run the disk scan tool. You can find it under “system tools” from your start menu.

Once the scan is complete, you should notice a positive difference in the way your computer runs. If your computer is still running slow, there is more you can do.

If your computer is still slow after running the disk scan tool, it may be an indication that it needs to be defragmented. To determine whether or not this may be necessary, you should run your disk defragmenter tool. To get to the disk defragmenter tool, follow the same steps you did to get to the disk scan tool. Once you open the defragmenter tool, click analyze in order to see if you need to run the tool.

Finally, to speed up PC performance with Windows XP, you may need to delete some programs that you never use. To do this, you must go to the control panel. Then you need to click “Add or Remove Programs”. Simply go down the list of programs and remove the ones you never use anymore.

If your PC is running slow, there are ways to speed it up. By following the tips above, you should see a significant difference in your computer’s speed. These fixes are quick and easy.

Are you trying to determine how to speed up PC performance time? Does your computer take more time to start up than it usually does? Do not fear, improve pc speed and speed pc up is here!

As your research has brought you here it's probable that you'd like to enter the world of computers and you fancy taking your MCSE, or you're currently an IT professional and it's apparent that the next stage is the MCSE accreditation.

by Jason Kendall

As your research has brought you here it’s probable that you’d like to enter the world of computers and you fancy taking your MCSE, or you’re currently an IT professional and it’s apparent that the next stage is the MCSE accreditation.

We’d recommend you prove conclusively that your provider is supplying you with the most up-to-date Microsoft version. A lot of students are left in a mess when they discover they’ve been educated in an outdated MCSE course which will require an up-date. Avoid the companies that are simply out to sell something. Advisors should be helping to verify that you’re taking the right decisions. Resist being forced into some generic product by an inadequate outfit.

It’s clear nowadays: There’s no such thing as personal job security anymore; there’s only industry or sector security – as any company can remove anyone whenever it suits their business requirements. But a quickly growing market-place, where staff are in constant demand (because of a growing shortfall of trained workers), creates the conditions for real job security.

Looking at the Information Technology (IT) sector, a key e-Skills investigation brought to light an over 26 percent shortfall of skilled workers. Essentially, we can’t properly place more than just 3 out of every 4 jobs in Information Technology (IT). Fully qualified and commercially certified new employees are thus at a complete premium, and it looks like they will be for a long time. We can’t imagine if a better time or market state of affairs could exist for getting certified in this hugely emerging and blossoming market.

How do we reach an informed choice then? With all these possibilities, it’s essential to be guided as to where to be looking – and of course, what to actually be searching for.

An all too common mistake that we encounter all too often is to focus entirely on getting a qualification, rather than starting with the desired end-result. Universities are full of direction-less students who took a course because it seemed fun – rather than what would get them the job they want. It’s quite usual, in many cases, to find immense satisfaction in a year of study only to end up putting 20 long years into something completely unrewarding, as an upshot of not doing some decent due-diligence when you should’ve – at the outset.

You also need to know your feelings on earning potential and career progression, and whether you intend to be quite ambitious. It makes sense to understand what will be expected of you, what particular accreditations are required and where you’ll pick-up experience from. We recommend that students seek guidance and advice from a skilled advisor before embarking on a study programme, so you’re sure from the outset that the chosen route will give you the skill-set required for your career choice.

The classroom style of learning we remember from school, utilising reference manuals and books, is an up-hill struggle for the majority of us. If this describes you, find training programs which have a majority of interactive, multimedia parts. Research has consistently verified that connecting physically with our study, will more likely produce memories that are deeper and longer-lasting.

The latest audio-visual interactive programs with demonstrations and practice sessions will forever turn you away from traditional book study. And you’ll actually enjoy doing them. Always insist on a training material demonstration from the training company. You should ask for expert-led demonstrations, slideshows and interactive labs where you get to practice.

It’s unwise to opt for on-line only training. Because of the variable quality and reliability of most broadband providers, make sure you get actual CD or DVD ROM’s.

Many students come unstuck over a single courseware aspect which is often not even considered: How the training is broken down and sent out to you. Trainees may consider it sensible (with most training taking 1-3 years for a full commercial certification,) for a training company to release the training stage by stage, as you achieve each exam pass. However: What happens when you don’t complete every section? What if you don’t find their order of learning is ideal for you? Due to no fault of yours, you may not meet the required timescales and consequently not get all your materials.

In an ideal situation, you’d ask for every single material to be delivered immediately – enabling you to have them all to come back to at any time in the future – at any time you choose. You can also vary the order in which you complete each objective if you find another route more intuitive.

Most training companies will only provide support available from 9-6 (office hours) and sometimes later on specific days; It’s rare to find someone who offers late evening or full weekend cover. some companies only provide email support (slow), and so-called telephone support is normally just routed to a call-centre who will chat nicely with you for 5 minutes to ask what the issue is and then simply send an email to an instructor – who will attempt to call you within 24-48 hrs, when it suits them. This is all next to useless if you’re lost and confused and have a one hour time-slot in which to study.

The very best programs utilise an online access 24×7 package pulling in several support offices over many time-zones. You’ll have an easy to use interface which seamlessly selects the best facility available at any time of day or night: Support on demand. Always choose a training school that gives this level of learning support. As only true live 24×7 support delivers what is required.

The right sort of training course package will undoubtedly incorporate fully authorised exam preparation systems. Due to the fact that many IT examining boards are American, it’s essential to understand how exam questions will be phrased and formatted. It isn’t good enough just answering any old technical questions – they need to be in the proper exam format. Ensure that you ask for testing modules that will allow you to test your comprehension whenever you need to. Mock exams add to your knowledge bank – so the actual exam is much easier.

Finding your first job in the industry is often made easier if you’re offered a Job Placement Assistance facility. With the great need for more IT skills in Great Britain today, there’s no need to place too much emphasis on this feature however. It isn’t so complicated as you might think to find a job once you’re trained and certified.

Whatever you do, avoid waiting until you have completed your exams before getting your CV updated. Right at the beginning of your training, list what you’re working on and get promoting! Having the possibility of an interview is far better than not even being known about. Often junior support roles are bagged by trainees who are still at an early stage in their studies. Most often, an independent and specialised local employment agency (who will, of course, be keen to place you to receive their commission) will be more pro-active than a recruitment division from a training organisation. Also of course they should be familiar with local industry and the area better.

A constant aggravation for various course providers is how hard people are prepared to study to get top marks in their exams, but how little effort that student will then put into getting the role they’re qualified for. Don’t give up when the best is yet to come.

by Jason Kendall

Should you fancy a career in web design, you will need to study Adobe Dreamweaver. Additionally, it’s good practice that you gain an in-depth and thorough understanding of the entire Adobe Web Creative Suite, which includes Flash and Action Script, to be able to utilise Dreamweaver professionally as a web designer. These skills can take you on to becoming an ACP (Adobe Certified Professional) or an ACE (Adobe Certified Expert).

Making websites is only the first aspect of the skills needed by professional web-designers today. Why not find a course with a range of specialist features, for example PHP, HTML and MySQL to enable you to understand how to create traffic, maintain content and program dynamic sites that are database driven.

How can we arrive at a good decision then? With all this potential, we’ll need to know where to dig – and what we should be searching for.

A typical blunder that many potential students make is to focus entirely on getting a qualification, rather than starting with the desired end-result. Colleges have thousands of unaware students that chose an ‘interesting’ course – instead of the program that would surely get them the career they desired. Don’t be part of that group who set off on a track that on the surface appears interesting – and end up with a certification for an unrewarding career path.

It’s a good idea to understand what expectations industry may have of you. What precise exams they will want you to have and in what way you can gain some industry experience. You should also spend a little time considering how far you wish to build your skill-set as it will affect your choice of exams. We recommend that students always seek guidance and advice from an experienced industry advisor before you begin some particular study programme, so there’s no doubt that the chosen route will give you the skills for the job being sought.

You should only consider learning programs which grow into commercially recognised accreditations. There are loads of trainers promoting ‘in-house’ certificates that are essentially useless in the real world. You’ll find that only recognised certification from companies such as Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA and Adobe will mean anything to employers.

Full support is of the utmost importance – ensure you track down something offering 24×7 direct access to instructors, as anything less will not satisfy and will also hold up your pace and restrict your intake. Don’t accept training that only supports you via an out-sourced call-centre message system when it’s outside of usual working hours. Companies will give you every excuse in the book why you don’t need this. Essentially – you want support at the appropriate time – not when it’s convenient for them.

Be on the lookout for study programmes that incorporate three or four individual support centres around the globe in several time-zones. Every one of them needs to be seamlessly combined to enable simple one-stop access together with access round-the-clock, when it’s convenient for you, with the minimum of hassle. If you fail to get yourself direct-access 24×7 support, you’ll regret it. You may not need it late at night, but you may need weekends, early mornings or even late evenings at some point.

The age-old way of teaching, involving piles of reference textbooks, is an up-hill struggle for the majority of us. If this sounds like you, check out study materials which feature interactive and multimedia modules. If we’re able to involve all our senses in the learning process, our results will often be quite spectacular.

Find a course where you’ll receive a selection of CD and DVD based materials – you’ll learn by watching video tutorials and demonstrations, with the facility to use virtual lab’s to practice your new skills. Make sure to obtain a look at some courseware examples from your training provider. The package should contain instructor videos, demonstrations, slide-shows and interactive labs where you get to practice.

You should avoid purely online training. Ideally, you should opt for CD and DVD ROM courseware where available, as you need to be able to use them whenever it’s convenient for you – and not be totally reliant on a good broadband connection all the time.

Review the facts below in detail if you’ve been persuaded that the sales ploy of ‘guaranteeing’ exams sounds like a benefit to the student:

You’ll pay for it one way or another. One thing’s for sure – it isn’t free – it’s just been rolled into the price of the whole package. If you want to pass first time, then you should fund each exam as you take it, give it the necessary attention and apply yourself as required.

Find the best exam deal or offer available at the appropriate time, and save having to find the money early. You’ll then be able to select where you sit the exam – which means you can stay local. Big margins are netted by many companies who incorporate exam fees into the cost of the course. A number of students don’t take them for various reasons and so the company is quids-in. Astoundingly enough, providers exist that actually bank on it – as that’s how they make a lot of their profit. Additionally, many exam guarantees are worthless. The majority of companies won’t pay for re-takes until you can prove to them you’re ready to pass.

Due to typical VUE and Prometric tests in the United Kingdom costing around 112 pounds, by far the best option is to pay for them as you take them. Why splash out often many hundreds of pounds extra at the beginning of your training? A commitment to studying and the use of authorised exam preparation tools are actually the key to your success.

Now, why might we choose commercial certification instead of more traditional academic qualifications gained through schools and Further Education colleges? Key company training (as it’s known in the industry) is most often much more specialised. Industry is aware that a specialist skill-set is essential to cope with an acceleratingly technical workplace. CISCO, Adobe, Microsoft and CompTIA are the big boys in this field. Essentially, the learning just focuses on what’s actually required. It isn’t quite as lean as that might sound, but the principle remains that students need to cover the precise skills needed (along with a certain amount of crucial background) – without overdoing the detail in everything else (as universities often do).

Assuming a company knows what areas need to be serviced, then they simply need to advertise for someone with a specific qualification. The syllabuses all have to conform to the same requirements and don’t change between schools (as academic syllabuses often do).

How long has it been since you considered how safe your job is? For most people, this issue only becomes a talking point when something dramatic happens to shake us. But in today’s marketplace, the painful truth is that true job security doesn’t really exist anymore, for the vast majority of people. When we come across growing skills deficits together with areas of high demand though, we always find a fresh type of security in the marketplace; driven forward by conditions of continuous growth, companies are struggling to hire enough staff.

With the Information Technology (IT) industry as an example, a key e-Skills investigation showed massive skills shortages in the UK around the 26 percent mark. To explain it in a different way, this means that the United Kingdom can only locate three qualified staff for every 4 jobs available at the moment. This one reality on its own shows why the UK is in need of a lot more new trainees to enter the IT industry. It’s unlikely if a better time or market conditions will exist for acquiring training in this quickly emerging and developing market.

In the fast-paced world we live in, support workers who can mend computers and networks, along with giving constant solutions to users, are indispensable in every sector of the business environment. The nation’s requirement for increasing numbers of commercially qualified individuals multiplies, as we turn out to be consistently more dependent upon PC’s in the twenty first century.

Making the most suitable career option is very difficult – so which sectors are important to investigate and which questions should we raise?

Any advisor who doesn’t dig around with lots of question – it’s likely they’re actually nothing more than a salesman. If someone pushes specific products before learning about your history and whether you have any commercial experience, then you know it’s true. It’s worth remembering, if you’ve had any relevant qualifications that are related, then you can sometimes expect to pick-up at a different starting-point to a student who’s starting from scratch. Always consider starting with some basic user skills first. This can help whip your basic knowledge into shape and make the learning curve a little less steep.

Each programme of learning should always lead to a properly recognised accreditation as an end-result – not some little ‘in-house’ diploma – fit only for filing away and forgetting. To an employer, only the top companies like Microsoft, CompTIA, Adobe or Cisco (for instance) will get you short-listed. Nothing else will cut the mustard.

The age-old way of teaching, involving piles of reference textbooks, is often a huge slog for most of us. If you’re nodding as you read this, look for learning programmes that are on-screen and interactive. Long-term memory is enhanced when all our senses are brought into the mix – educational experts have expounded on this for many years.

Courses are now available via DVD-ROM discs, where everything is taught on your PC. Video streaming means you can watch instructors demonstrating how something is done, with some practice time to follow – with interactive lab sessions. You’ll definitely want a demonstration of the study materials from your training provider. The package should contain demo’s from instructors, slideshows and virtual practice lab’s for your new skills.

It’s usually bad advice to select online only courseware. Because of the variable quality and reliability of your average broadband company, make sure you get CD or DVD ROM based materials.

Some training companies will only provide support available from 9-6 (office hours) and sometimes later on specific days; It’s rare to find someone who offers late evening or full weekend cover. Try and find training with proper support available at any time you choose (irrespective of whether it’s the wee hours on Sunday morning!) You want access directly to professional tutors, and not access to a call-in service which takes messages – so you’re parked in a queue of others waiting to be called back at a convenient time for them.

The best trainers utilise several support facilities around the globe in several time-zones. They use an online interactive interface to seamlessly link them all, irrespective of the time you login, help is at hand, without any problems or delays. Never ever take second best when it comes to your support. Most students who fall by the wayside, would have had a different experience if they’d got the right support package in the first place.

Look at the following facts in detail if you think the marketing blurb about ‘guaranteeing’ exams sounds like a benefit to the student:

They’ve allowed costings for it somehow. It’s definitely not free – it’s simply been shoe-horned into the price as a whole. Those who take each progressive exam, funding them as they go are much better placed to get through first time. They are conscious of what they’ve paid and prepare more appropriately to be up to the task.

Why pay your training course provider up-front for examination fees? Find the best deal you can at the time, instead of paying a premium – and do it in a local testing centre – rather than in some remote place. A lot of current training colleges net big margins through getting paid for exam fees early and cashing in if they’re not all taken. Additionally, you should consider what an ‘exam guarantee’ really means. Many training companies won’t be prepared to pay again for an exam until you’re able to demonstrate an excellent mock pass rate.

With average prices for VUE and Pro-metric tests coming in at around 112 pounds in the UK, by far the best option is to pay for them as you take them. There’s no sense in throwing away maybe a thousand pounds extra at the start of your studies. Consistent and systematic learning, coupled with quality exam simulation software is what will really see you through.

Qualifications from the commercial sector are now, most definitely, already replacing the older academic routes into the industry – but why should this be? As we require increasingly more effective technological know-how, industry has of necessity moved to specialist courses only available through the vendors themselves – that is companies like Microsoft, CompTIA, CISCO and Adobe. Frequently this is at a far reduced cost both money and time wise. Essentially, students are simply taught the necessary specifics in depth. It’s not quite as straightforward as that, but the most important function is always to concentrate on the fundamentally important skill-sets (including a degree of required background) – without trying to cram in all sorts of other things (as universities often do).

Just like the advert used to say: ‘It does what it says on the tin’. Employers simply need to know what they need doing, and then advertise for someone with the specific certification. Then they know that anyone who applies can do the necessary work.

Many folks don’t understand what information technology means. It is electrifying, revolutionary, and means you’re working on technology affecting everyones lives in the 21st century. We’re only just starting to scrape the surface of how technology will affect our lives in the future. The internet will massively change the way we see and interact with the world around us over the coming decades.

And keep in mind that typical remuneration in the IT market over Britain as a whole is noticeably more than the national average salary, so in general you will be in a good position to gain significantly more in the IT sector, than you’d get in most other industries. With the IT marketplace developing year on year, it’s likely that the need for certified IT specialists will remain buoyant for decades to come.

There are four specialised areas of training in the complete CompTIA A+ course, of which 2 passes are needed for your A+ qualification. Be aware though that restricting yourself to two out of the 4 subjects available might well not equip you for a job. At least learn about all four – for greater confidence in the world of work.

CompTIA A+ without additional courses will allow you to mend and maintain stand-alone PC’s and MAC’s; principally ones that aren’t joined to a network – this generally applies to home use and small companies. Should you want to work towards looking after computer networks, you should add CompTIA Network+ to the CompTIA A+ training you’re doing. Taking this course as well will mean you can assist you greatly in the job market. Also look at the Microsoft networking qualifications (MCP, MCSA and MCSE).

Does job security really exist anymore? Here in the UK, where business constantly changes its mind whenever it suits, it seems increasingly unlikely. We could however find market-level security, by searching for areas that have high demand, tied with a shortage of skilled staff.

The computer industry skills-gap in the country clocks in at over 26 percent, according to a recent e-Skills study. This shows that for every four jobs available across computing, we’ve only got three properly trained pro’s to perform that task. This one notion alone shows why the United Kingdom needs considerably more workers to get trained and join the Information Technology market. With the market expanding at such a quick pace, could there honestly be a better area of industry worth investigating for retraining.

It’s irrefutable, the Information Technology (IT) industry promises great prospects. Yet, to investigate it properly, which questions do we need to be asking, and what elements are the most important?

Commencing from the viewpoint that we need to choose the job we want to do first, before we’re even able to mull over what educational program would meet that requirement, how do we decide on the right path? Consequently, if you have no know-how of the IT sector, how could you possibly know what a particular IT employee does each day? Let alone decide on what certification program would be most appropriate for your success. Reflection on these issues is vital when you want to uncover a solution that suits you:

* Your personal interests and hobbies – often these highlight what things you’ll get the most enjoyment out of.

* Is your focus to re-train for a particular raison d’etre – for example, do you aim to work based at home (being your own boss?)?

* Is salary further up on your list of priorities than anything else.

* Understanding what the main Information technology roles and sectors are – and what makes them different.

* How much effort you will spend on your training.

The bottom line is, the most intelligent way of covering these is via a long chat with an advisor who through years of experience will give you the information required.

People attracted to this sort of work often have a very practical outlook on work, and don’t always take well to classrooms, and poring through books and manuals. If this is putting you off studying, opt for more involving, interactive learning materials, where everything is presented via full motion video. Many studies have proved that we remember much more when we receive multi-sensorial input, and we put into practice what we’ve been studying.

Interactive audio-visual materials featuring instructor demo’s and practice lab’s will beat books every time. And they’re far more fun. It makes sense to see some examples of the kind of training materials you’ll be using before you sign on the dotted line. Always insist on videoed instructor demonstrations and audio-visual elements backed up by interactive lab’s.

Seek out actual CD or DVD ROM’s every time. You’re then protected from broadband outages, failure and signal quality issues etc.

One area often overlooked by trainees mulling over a new direction is the issue of ‘training segmentation’. This is essentially the way the course is divided up to be delivered to you, which makes a huge difference to how you end up. Students often think it makes sense (with a typical time scale of 1-3 years for a full commercial certification,) for your typical trainer to courier the training stage by stage, as you achieve each exam pass. But: What would happen if you didn’t finish each and every exam at the required speed? Sometimes their preference of study order won’t be as easy as some other order of studying might.

To be straight, the best solution is to get an idea of what they recommend as an ideal study order, but get all the study materials at the start. Meaning you’ve got it all in the event you don’t complete everything within their ideal time-table.

One thing you must always insist on is comprehensive 24×7 direct-access support from trained professional instructors and mentors. Too many companies only provide support to you inside of office hours (typically 9am-6pm) and sometimes a little earlier or later (but not weekends usually). Find a good quality service where you can access help at any time of the day or night (even 1am on Sunday morning!) You want direct access to tutors, and not access to a call-in service which takes messages – so you’re parked in a queue of others waiting to be called back at a convenient time for them.

It’s possible to find professional training packages that offer online support all the time – including evenings, nights and weekends. Search out a training provider that goes the extra mile. Only true live 24×7 round-the-clock support gives you the confidence to make it.

It’s essential to have authorised exam simulation and preparation programs included in your course. Because a lot of IT examining boards tend to be American, you must be prepared for the way exams are phrased. It’s not sufficient just understanding random questions – they must be in an exam format that exactly replicates the real thing. Simulations and practice exams are invaluable as a resource to you – so much so, that at your actual exams, you will be much more relaxed.

A service offered by some training providers is job placement assistance. It’s intention is to assist your search for your first position. Sometimes, there is more emphasis than is necessary on this service, as it’s really not that difficult for well qualified and focused men and women to land a job in the IT industry – because there’s a great need for well trained people.

Having said that, it’s important to have help and assistance with preparing a CV and getting interviews though; additionally, we would recommend all students to get their CV updated as soon as training commences – don’t put it off until you’ve graduated or passed any exams. A good number of junior support roles have been offered to students who are still learning and have yet to take their exams. This will at least get you into the ‘maybe’ pile of CV’s – rather than the ‘No’ pile. If you’d like to keep travelling time and costs to a minimum, then you may well find that an independent and specialised local employment service can generally work much better for you than the trainer’s recruitment division, because they’re going to be familiar with the local job scene.

Certainly ensure you don’t conscientiously work through your course materials, and then just stop and leave it up to everyone else to secure your first position. Get off your backside and get on with the job. Invest the same focus into landing the right position as it took to get qualified.

It’s quite some achievement that you’ve already got this far! Just ten percent of people are happy and satisfied by their jobs, but most of us complain to each other and that’s it. The fact that you’re here means it’s likely that you’re finding out about training, so well done to you. Now you just need to get busy to find your direction.

We’d strongly advise that before you start a training course, you discuss your plans with a person who can see the bigger picture and can point you in the right direction. The right person will be able to assess your personal likes and dislikes and help you sort out a role to fit you:

* Are you happier left to your own devices at work or is being in a team environment an essential criteria for you?

* Building and Banking are a little shaky these days, so it’s important to look very carefully at what sector will answer your needs?

* Is this the last time you plan to retrain, and based on that, do you believe this career choice will service that need?

* Is it important for your training course to be in a market sector where as far as you can see your chances of gainful employment are high up to the time you want to stop?

The largest sector in the United Kingdom that can satisfy a trainee’s demands is the computer industry, particularly IT. There’s a need for more skilled technicians in this market, just check out any job site and you’ll see for yourself. However, it’s not full of techie geeks looking at their computerscreens all day long – there are loads more jobs than that. The majority of staff in the computer industry are just like the rest of us, with well paid and stimulating jobs.

So if the Information Technology (IT) market provides such an array of unparalleled career opportunities for us all – what questions do we need to ask and what elements are important to consider?

An all too common mistake that we encounter all too often is to choose a career based on a course, and take their eye off where they want to get to. Colleges have thousands of unaware students who took a course because it seemed fun – in place of something that could gain them the career they desired. It’s possible, in many cases, to obtain tremendous satisfaction from a year of studying and then find yourself trapped for decades in a job you hate, entirely because you stumbled into it without the correct research at the outset.

Stay tuned-in to what it is you’re trying to achieve, and then build your training requirements around that – don’t do it the other way round. Stay on target and ensure that you’re training for a job you’ll enjoy for years to come. As a precursor to beginning a training program, it’s good advice to discuss the specific job requirements with a professional advisor, in order to be sure the study program covers all that is required.

Most trainers typically provide mainly work-books and reference manuals. Learning like this is dull and repetitive and isn’t the best way to go about achieving retention. Long-term memory is enhanced when multiple senses are involved – learning experts have been saying this for decades now.

Find a course where you’re provided with an array of CD and DVD based materials – you’ll be learning from instructor videos and demo’s, and then have the opportunity to practice your skills in interactive lab’s. It’s wise to view examples of the courseware provided before you purchase a course. Always insist on videoed instructor demonstrations and interactive modules with audio-visual elements.

Select disc based courseware (On CD or DVD) whenever you can. Thus avoiding all the issues associated with internet connection failure and issues with signal quality.

We need to make this very clear: Always get full 24×7 professional support from mentors and instructors. We can tell you that you’ll strongly regret it if you let this one slide. Avoid training courses that only support you through a message system outside of normal office hours. Colleges will always try to hide the importance of this issue. Essentially – support is required when it’s required – not when it suits them.

Top training companies use multiple support centres across multiple time-zones. They use an online interactive interface to join them all seamlessly, at any time you choose, there is always help at hand, with no hassle or contact issues. Don’t under any circumstances take anything less. Online 24×7 support is the only way to go for IT study. Maybe burning the midnight-oil is not your thing; often though, we’re at work during the provided support period.

In first place for the biggest single let-down in the IT training sector can be attending multi-day workshops. A lot of training academies extol the virtues of the plus points of attending, it’s almost certain though that you’ll find them a major problem because of:

* All the travelling required – multiple visits and normally 100′s of miles each time.

* Getting time out of work – a lot of trainers will only provide Mon-Fri workshop availability and group several days in a chunk. This isn’t ideal for most people who work, and it’s made more problematic when travel time is included.

* At only 4 weeks off each year, spending half on educational workshops leaves very little time for holidays.

* ‘In-Centre’ workshop days typically end up over full.

* You may prefer to move at a somewhat more suitable pace – rather than be dictated to by the rest of the class. This creates the tension often found in classrooms.

* Never disregard the extra expense of arranging transport and accommodation either. Often, this will cost many hundreds of pounds more – sometimes thousands. Sit down and add it up – you may be surprised.

* Quite a lot of students want study privacy and therefore avoiding all questions in their job.

* It’s very common for trainees not to put a question forward that they would like answered – just because they’re surrounded by fellow attendees.

* It should be remembered that days in-centre are nigh on impossible to attend, if you work away for part of the week.

The most impressive solution rests with watching a videoed class – with instructor-led learning available any time of the day that suits. Just imagine… With a laptop then you’re free to work in the garden, a park, or just outside. And live 24 hr-a-day support is an online click away in case you get challenged. You’ll never have to write notes again – all the lessons are prepared and laid out for you – ready to go. If you need to cover something again, it’s immediately available. The bottom line: Reduced hassle and stress, saved money, and absolutely no travelling.

Doing your bit in progressive developments in new technology really is electrifying. Your actions are instrumental in creating a future for us all. We’re only just starting to scrape the surface of how technology will define our world. Technology and the web will profoundly transform how we see and interact with the world as a whole over the years to come.

Should receiving a good salary be up there on your list of priorities, then you’ll welcome the news that the regular income of a typical IT worker is a lot higher than salaries in the rest of the economy. The need for well trained and qualified IT technicians is guaranteed for quite some time to come, thanks to the constant development in IT dependency in commerce and the vast skills gap still present.

by Jason Kendall

If you’re thinking about a job in supporting networks then the Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator course would be right for you. Whether you want to get going or have previous knowledge but need a professional certificate, a number of options are available to help you either way. Identify an organisation that’s eager to understand you, and can guide you on the correct course of action, even before they start thinking about the relevant training. Experts will also be in a position to tell you where to begin based on your present skill-set and/or gaps in understanding.

Doing your bit in progressive developments in new technology really is electrifying. You become one of a team of people creating a future for us all. We’re only just starting to get to grips with how all this will mould and change our lives. The way we interact with the world will be massively affected by technology and the internet.

The money in IT isn’t to be sniffed at also – the average salary in the UK for an average man or woman in IT is a lot higher than in the rest of the economy. It’s likely that you’ll earn a much greater package than you would in most other jobs. It’s evident that we have a great national need for certified IT specialists. Also, with the constant growth in the marketplace, it is likely there will be for years to come.

It’s indisputable, the IT industry shows extraordinary possibilities. However, to properly investigate, what are the questions we need to raise, and which are the areas we need to look at?

Chat with a practiced advisor and you’ll be surprised by their many horror stories of salespeople ripping-off unsuspecting students. Ensure you only ever work with a skilled professional that asks some in-depth questions to find out what’s appropriate to you – not for their wallet! You must establish a starting-point that will suit you. Sometimes, the training start-point for a student experienced in some areas will be hugely dissimilar to the student with none. For those students embarking on IT studies as a new venture, it can be helpful to ease in gradually, starting with some basic Microsoft package and Windows skills first. This can easily be incorporated into most types of training.

Full support is of the utmost importance – find a program providing 24×7 full access, as anything else will annoy you and definitely put a damper on the speed you move through things. Avoid training courses that only support students with a call-centre messaging service after 6-9pm in the evening and during weekends. Companies will give you every excuse in the book why you don’t need this. Essentially – support is required when it’s required – not at times when they find it cheaper to provide it.

Keep looking and you’ll come across the top providers which offer online direct access support at all times – including evenings, nights and weekends. Never make do with less than this. Direct-access 24×7 support is really your only option for IT courses. Perhaps you don’t intend to study during the evenings; often though, we’re working during the provided support period.

We’d hazard a guess that you’re a practical sort of person – the ‘hands-on’ individual. If you’re like us, the world of book-reading and classrooms is something you’ll force on yourself if you absolutely have to, but you really wouldn’t enjoy it. Consider interactive, multimedia study if books just don’t do it for you. Research has always confirmed that getting into our studies physically, will more likely produce memories that are deeper and longer-lasting.

Programs are now found in disc format, where everything is taught on your PC. Using video-streaming, you are able to see your instructors showing you how something is done, and then have a go at it yourself – with interactive lab sessions. It would be silly not to view examples of the courseware provided before you sign on the dotted line. Always insist on instructor-led video demonstrations and a variety of audio-visual and interactive sections.

Opt for physical media such as CD or DVD ROM’s wherever available. Thus avoiding all the issues associated with broadband outages, failure and signal quality issues etc.

How the program is actually delivered to you is often missed by many students. How is the courseware broken down? What is the order and how fast does each element come? Many companies enrol you into a 2 or 3 year study programme, and deliver each piece one-by-one as you finish each section. If you think this sound logical, then consider this: Students often discover that their training company’s ‘standard’ path of training doesn’t suit. They might find varying the order of study will be far more suitable. Could it cause problems if you don’t get everything done inside of the expected timescales?

To be straight, the best solution is to get an idea of what they recommend as an ideal study order, but make sure you have all of your learning modules right from the beginning. Everything is then in your possession if you don’t manage to finish quite as quick as they’d want.

Incorporating examinations up-front and presenting it as a guarantee for your exams is common for many training course providers. But let’s examine why they really do it:

They’ve allowed costings for it one way or another. It certainly isn’t free – it’s simply been shoe-horned into the price as a whole. Should you seriously need to qualify first ‘go’, evidence suggests you must pay for one exam at a time, give it the priority it deserves and give the task sufficient application.

Find the best exam deal or offer available when you take the exam, and save having to find the money early. You also get more choice of where you do the examinations – so you can find somewhere local. A surprising number of current training companies secure huge profits by asking for exam fees early then hoping that you won’t take them all. In addition to this, many exam guarantees are worthless. Most companies won’t be prepared to pay for you to re-take until you’re able to demonstrate an excellent mock pass rate.

With average prices for VUE and Pro-metric examinations coming in at around 112 pounds in the UK, by far the best option is to pay for them as you take them. Not to fork out thousands extra in up-front costs. Commitment, effort and practice with quality exam preparation systems are the factors that really get you through.

A service provided by many trainers is a Job Placement Assistance program. The service is put in place to steer you into your first IT role. With the massive demand for appropriately skilled people in Great Britain today, there’s no need to place too much emphasis on this feature however. It isn’t such a complex operation to find the right work as long as you’ve got the necessary skills and qualifications.

You would ideally have CV and Interview advice and support though; and we’d encourage everybody to work on polishing up their CV as soon as they start a course – don’t procrastinate and leave it until you’ve qualified. You might not even have passed your first exam when you will get your initial junior support role; although this can’t and won’t happen if your CV isn’t in front of employers. Actually, a local IT focused employment agency (who will get paid commission to place you) should get better results than any centralised training company’s service. Also of course they should know the local industry and employment needs.

Many trainees, apparently, spend evenings and weekends on their training and studies (sometimes for years), only to give up at the first hurdle when looking for their first job. Market yourself… Work hard to get in front of employers. A job isn’t just going to bump into you.

For almost all web designers, Adobe Dreamweaver is the starting point of study. It’s reputed to be the favourite environment for web development on the planet. We’d also suggest that you gain an in-depth and thorough understanding of the full Adobe Web Creative Suite, including Flash and Action Script, to be able to take advantage of Dreamweaver commercially as a web-designer. This can take you on to becoming either an Adobe Certified Professional (ACP) or an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE).

Understanding how to create the website just gets you started. Driving traffic, content maintenance and some programming skills should come next. Consider courses that also teach these subjects (such as PHP, HTML, MySQL etc.), alongside search engine optimisation (SEO) and E-Commerce skills.

Listening to so much discussion about IT currently, how is it possible to understand what in particular to look for?

Trainees hoping to start an Information Technology career often haven’t a clue what path is best, or which sector to achieve their certification in. Consequently, without any experience in the IT industry, what chance is there for you to know what any qualified IT worker actually does day-to-day? Let alone decide on what certification program is the most likely for success. To work through this, a discussion is necessary, covering many definitive areas:

* Your hobbies and interests – often these point towards what areas will satisfy you.

* Are you hoping to re-train for a particular motive – e.g. are you pushing to work at home (self-employment?)?

* The income requirements that are important to you?

* Looking at the many markets that computing encapsulates, it’s important to be able to absorb what’s different.

* It’s wise to spend some time thinking about any sacrifices you’ll need to make, as well as what commitment and time you’ll put into your training.

In actuality, your only option to investigate these matters tends to be through a good talk with someone that has experience of computing (and chiefly it’s commercial needs.)

It’s likely that you’re quite practically minded – the ‘hands-on’ individual. Usually, the unfortunate chore of reading reference guides is something you’ll force on yourself if you absolutely have to, but it’s not really your thing. You should use video and multimedia based materials if books just don’t do it for you. We see a huge improvement in memory retention when we use multiple senses – this has been an accepted fact in expert circles for as long as we can remember.

You can now study via self-contained CD or DVD materials. Instructor-led tutorials will mean you’ll find things easier to remember by way of the expert demonstrations. Then you test your knowledge by utilising the practice lab’s and modules. Each company you’re contemplating should be able to show you some examples of their training materials. You’re looking for evidence of tutorial videos and demonstrations and many interactive sections.

Avoid training that is purely online. Ideally, you should opt for CD and DVD ROM courseware where offered, enabling them to be used at your convenience – it’s not wise to be held hostage to a good broadband connection all the time.

Most training companies only provide office hours or extended office hours support; It’s rare to find someone who offers late evening or full weekend cover. Find a good quality service where you can receive help at all hours of the day and night (no matter if it’s in the middle of the night on a weekend!) You want direct-access to qualified mentors and tutors, and not a call-centre that will take messages so you’re waiting for tutors to call you back – probably during office hours.

The best training colleges provide an online 24×7 service utilising a variety of support centres across the globe. You will have a single, easy-to-use environment which accesses the most appropriate office any time of the day or night: Support on demand. Never ever take second best when it comes to your support. Most students who throw in the towel, are in that situation because of a lack of support.

If there’s any chance you’ll be enrolling with a certification company which is still using workshops as a benefit of their course, then you should know about these problems encountered by the majority of students:

* Frequent centre visits – sometimes 100′s of miles or more.

* Requesting time off work – a lot of trainers provide class availability from Monday to Friday and group several days in a chunk. This is generally difficult for those of us who work for a living, and this is made worse when you add the travel time on.

* And don’t forget the lost holiday days. Usually we’re lucky to have four weeks vacation allowance. If over 50 percent is used in classes, then there’s very little left over for us.

* Training events can fill up very quickly and will likely end up bigger than you’d hoped.

* Workshop pace – classes can have trainees of mixed talent, so tension can run high between those that want to go quickly as opposed to the ones who need a little longer.

* The growing costs associated with travel – driving or taking public transport to and from the training facility plus bed and breakfast can mount up each time you attend. If we just assume a basic 5-10 workshops at a cost of 35 pounds for one over-night room, plus 40 pounds petrol and food at 15 pounds, we find an extra four to nine hundred pounds of hidden costs on top.

* You should never risk any chance of getting passed-over for a lift up the ladder or income boosts just because you’re retraining.

* Many of us find that, at times, it’s uncomfortable to raise questions when surrounded by our fellow trainees – who wants to look like they’re the only one who doesn’t get it?

* Often, events are nigh on impossible to attend, in cases where you live away for some part of the year.

For a far more flexible approach, utilise pre-filmed workshops at the location of your choice – at a time that’s convenient to you – not someone else. Any time you get a problem, utilise the 24×7 Support (that should’ve been packaged with any technical type of training.) Don’t forget, if you’ve got a laptop, you can study wherever you want. Any module can be repeated if you need to – the more times you cover something – the more you’ll remember. And you can say goodbye to note-taking – everything’s provided. Quite simply: You avoid a bunch of hassle, save money and time, and steer clear of polluting the skies.

Often, people don’t really get what IT is doing for all of us. It is stimulating, innovative, and means you’re doing your bit in the gigantic wave of technology that will change our world over the next few decades. There are people who believe that the increase in technology we have experienced is slowing down. There is no truth in this at all. We have yet to experience incredible advances, and most especially the internet will become an increasingly dominant part of our lives.

Always remember that the average salary in the IT market in Great Britain is significantly greater than average salaries nationally, therefore you’ll most likely earn significantly more as an IT specialist, than you would in most typical jobs. It seems there’s no easing up for IT jobs expansion in the United Kingdom. The sector is still growing enormously, and we don’t have anywhere near enough qualified skilled IT professionals to fill current job vacancies, so it’s highly unlikely that there’ll be any kind of easing off for quite some time to come.

We all have busy lives, and most often if we desire to study for a new career, training alongside a job is our best way forward. Microsoft certified training could be the answer. Try to consider all the options with somebody who knows about the IT industry, and can influence your choice of the most appropriate area to match your character. Having selected the area you want to get into, your next search is for a suitable training program tailored to go with your skills and abilities. Your course material should be second to none.

What questions do we need to ask if we want to get the understanding we need? Since there seems to be many rather excellent opportunities for us to look at.

For the most part, a typical trainee doesn’t have a clue where to start with the IT industry, or even what market they should look at getting trained in. Perusing a list of odd-sounding and meaningless job titles is next to useless. The vast majority of us have no concept what our own family members do for a living – so what chance do we have in understanding the intricacies of a new IT role. Consideration of the following points is important when you need to get to a solution that suits you:

* Personality plays an important role – what kind of areas spark your interest, and what are the areas that put a frown on your face.

* Are you driven to re-train due to a specific raison d’etre – for example, do you aim to work based at home (being your own boss?)?

* Where is the salary on a scale of importance – is it of prime importance, or is job satisfaction further up on the priority-scale?

* Because there are so many ways to train in IT – there’s a need to pick up a basic understanding of what separates them.

* Taking a serious look into the effort, commitment and time that you’re going to put into it.

For the majority of us, considering so much data requires a good chat with an advisor that knows what they’re talking about. And we don’t just mean the qualifications – but the commercial requirements and expectations besides.

If you’re like many of the students we talk to then you’re quite practically minded – the ‘hands-on’ personality type. Typically, the trial of reading reference books and manuals is something you’ll make yourself do if you have to, but it’s not ideal. Consider interactive, multimedia study if you’d really rather not use books. Where we can get all of our senses involved in our learning, our results will often be quite spectacular.

Top of the range study programs now offer interactive CD and DVD ROM’s. Instructor-led tutorials will mean you’ll find things easier to remember via their teaching and demonstrations. Then it’s time to test your knowledge by interacting with the software and practicing yourself. Every company that you look at must be able to demonstrate a few examples of the materials provided for study. Expect video tutorials, instructor led classes and interactive areas to practice in.

You should avoid purely online training. Physical CD or DVD ROM materials are preferable where available, as you need to be able to use them whenever it’s convenient for you – ISP quality varies, so you don’t want to be totally reliant on your broadband being ‘up’ 100 percent of the time.

It’s usual for students to get confused with one aspect of their training which doesn’t even occur to them: The method used to ‘segment’ the courseware before being packaged off through the post. Typically, you’ll join a programme requiring 1-3 years study and receive a module at a time. This sounds logical on one level, until you consider this: What if you don’t finish each and every exam? And what if you find the order of the modules counter-intuitive? Because of nothing that’s your fault, you may go a little slower and consequently not get all your materials.

In a perfect world, you’d ask for every single material to be delivered immediately – meaning you’ll have all of them for the future to come back to – at any time you choose. Variations can then be made to the order that you complete each objective if another more intuitive route presents itself.

There is no way of over emphasising this: Always get full 24×7 professional support from mentors and instructors. You’ll severely regret it if you don’t heed this. Try and find training where you can access help at any time of day or night (irrespective of whether it’s the wee hours on Sunday morning!) Make sure it’s always access directly to professional tutors, and not a call-centre that will take messages so you’re consistently being held in a queue for a call-back – probably during office hours.

World-class organisations tend to use an online access 24 hours-a-day facility involving many support centres over many time-zones. You will be provided with an easy to use environment that seamlessly selects the best facility available no matter what time of day it is: Support on demand. If you accept anything less than 24×7 support, you’ll very quickly realise that you’ve made a mistake. It may be that you don’t use it during late nights, but you may need weekends, early mornings or late evenings.

Be careful that the qualifications you’re studying for are recognised by industry and are the most recent versions. Training companies own certificates are often meaningless. You’ll find that only recognised certification from the likes of Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA and Adobe will open the doors to employers.

One crafty way that colleges make a lot more is via an ‘exam inclusive’ package and offering an exam guarantee. This looks like a great idea for the student, but is it really:

It’s very clear we’re still paying for it – it’s not so hard to see that it’s already been included in the gross price invoiced by the training company. It’s absolutely not free – and it’s insulting that we’re supposed to think it is! The fact is that when students fund their relevant examinations, one after the other, they’ll be in a better position to pass first time – because they’ll think of the cost and their application will be greater.

Find the best exam deal or offer available at the appropriate time, and save having to find the money early. You’ll also be able to choose where to take your exam – so you can find somewhere local. Many so-called credible training providers secure huge profits through charging for exam fees early and hoping you won’t see them all through. It’s also worth noting that ‘Exam Guarantees’ often aren’t worth the paper they’re written on. Many training companies won’t be prepared to pay for you to re-take until you’re able to demonstrate an excellent mock pass rate.

On average, exams cost approximately 112 pounds last year through VUE or Pro-metric centres in the UK. Therefore, why splash out often many hundreds of pounds extra to have ‘an Exam Guarantee’, when it’s no secret that the responsible approach is a regular, committed, study programme, with an accredited exam preparation system.

Lately, do you find yourself questioning how safe your job is? Normally, this issue only becomes a talking point when something dramatic happens to shake us. Unfortunately, the lesson often learned too late is that our job security has gone the way of the dodo, for most of us. However, a fast growing sector, with huge staffing demands (through a growing shortfall of properly qualified workers), enables the possibility of lasting job security.

Investigating the computing sector, the 2006 e-Skills investigation brought to light a more than 26 percent shortfall of skilled workers. Or, to put it differently, this highlights that Great Britain can only find 3 certified professionals for each 4 job positions in existence today. This one fact alone reveals why the country requires many more workers to get trained and become part of the IT industry. It would be hard to imagine if a better time or market settings will exist for getting certified in this rapidly increasing and blossoming industry.
