Computer Firewall Unleashed - What it Does
Computer firewall is an OS based software designed to control the access to unauthorized content on a network or a computer system. It works with predefined set of rules, according to which it decides whether to block or allow access.
Microsoft launched “windows firewall “is a application software which is operated by windows users. It prevents most harmful virus attackers such are Trojans and worms. Meanwhile, it access internet services. Depending upon application criteria we can block network services.
This firewall was introduced in the 1980’s. After internet introduced to our life routers were used for accessing network and for network security.
In this technical life, need of internet access leads to bring new application software programs. In the same way firewall application software came into exist. Windows firewall is available for users who are working on windows OS.
Firewall software is working on the basis of set of rules and instructions. Optimized analysis mainly depends on the changes in settings for security protection. All these are configured and worked for system protection.
Firewall is classified into three generation sets. These are classified manly because of their features and applications. A firewall program supports both on-line and off-line services. These firewall generation sets to control the installation and sharing of data files.
The first function is called a “packet filter”, which stays focused with the data units transferred from the network. The second one, called as “stateful filter”, which records the list of connections passed and uses this to determine the state of the packets.
The third generation firewall also known as proxy-based firewall and also called as application-layer firewall. Its main function is to detect unwanted harmful threats and abused protocols. After detection it will automatically blocks those unwanted threats.
This third generation firewall works on application level of the TCP/IP stack and it will intercept all packets. This application-layer firewall mainly prevents unwanted traffic and threats. It blocks all types of viruses, worms and most harmful Trojans to protect the computer
